THANKING US
Dear "Smiles For Scott",
On behalf of the Child Life Program and the families we serve in Pediatrics, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the amazing donation of the iBook Macintosh Laptop and the Canon MiniDV Digital Camcorder (in addition to the extra video tapes and extended care plan). Needless to say, these two items have incredibly enhanced our our program. As you are aware, the Child Life Program seeks to provide psychosocial support to pediatric patients and their families. By providing our patients with age appropriate education, emotional support and therapeutic recreation, we are able to facilitate their adjustment to the hospital, and enhance their coping skills in the medical setting.
We are thrilled to have established this relationship with The Smiles For Scott Foundation and are so grateful that you elected to provide us with the foundation for a Video Therapy Program. Particularly for the pediatric oncology patients who have very long courses of treatment, this process can serve as an excellent outlet for self-expression with modern technology. The children and teens have been so excited by the idea of being able to "direct their own movies." The iBook is perfect for allowing the kids to really get "hands on," empowering them to create their own masterpieces. This also gives us the opportunity to document special occasions such as end of treatment celebrations, birthday parties, momentous steps during hospitalizations, and other such happy occasions which can serve as either a journal for the patient or a legacy building project for the family.
The Child Life Program here at Stony Brook University Medical Center is extremely appreciative to receive donations from individuals and groups in the Long Island community. Because our program has a very limited budget, the donations we receive enable us to keep our program viable for our patients. Your generosity directly impacts the population in pediatrics, and helps to make hospitalization easier for the children in our care. Though Scott did not receive his treatment here, we are honored to be the recipient of your organization's generosity. Even though we never had the opportunity to know him personally, we can tell through the passion with which you approach everything you do , that he was a boy who truly had the ability to light up someone's day. We will do everything in our power to keep his memory alive in all that we do to enhance the experiences of the children at Stony Brook.
Sincerely, Brad Jerson, CCLS Child Life Specialist, Pediatrics Stony Brook University Medical Center

Dear Friends,
Your donation has truly made a difference in the life of a child with cancer. On behalf of our young patients and their families at the Cancer Center for Kids, I would like to thank you for your generous donation. The snacks and juice boxes have been an amazing asset for the children after their procedures. Your compassionate nature and good will is very sincere and very much needed. As you know, the kids of the center and their families undergo so much during treatment that it is nice when the community lends a helping hand, every little bit helps to boost the spirits. Thank you so much for your contribution, it was very thoughtful and much appreciated.
We send you our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for supporting us here at the Cancer Center for Kids. Thank you again. You truly are a credit to the community.
Sincerely yours, Dr. Weinblatt Chief Pediatric Hematology/Oncology The Cancer Center for Kids

Dear "Smiles For Scott",
On behalf of the 128 campers and 120 volunteers who attended Camp Adventure 2007, I cannot begin to thank you enough for the donation of pajama pants. These were the biggest "hit" with the crowd and your "Smiles For Scott" logo could be seen throughout the camp. In fact, they were so popular that we had to keep the few extra pair under lock and key!!!
When I delivered them to each cabin one night I told everyone about your foundation and the story of Scott. The girls were particularly weepy-eyed and everyone agreed that this generous gift came from a truly wonderful and selfless donor.
Warmest regards, Madalyn Martin Coordinator, Camp Adventure American Cancer Society

Dear “Smiles For Scott”,
On behalf of the children in the Hematology/Oncology Division at Schneider Children’s Hospital, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude to you and everyone else involved in the “Smiles for Scott” organization for sponsoring and organizing the “Scott’s Sweet Smiles” candy wagon, and for your recent donation of art supplies and DVD’s to the Hematology/Oncology clinic.
As you know, a child’s stay in the hospital can be a very stressful time. Your giving spirit has graced our children with diversions through movies, therapeutic times through art, and literally watching our patients’ eyes light up as the little red wagon rolls by, is priceless!
Scott’s memory continues to live on with the beautiful work that you do.
Once again, thank you for thinking of our children, and thank you for caring.
With warm wishes, Faye Brick, CCLS Certified Child Life Specialist Hematology/Oncology Unit

Dear “Smiles For Scott”,
On behalf of the staff and families of the Hematology/Oncology Division at Schneider Children’s Hospital, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for organizing and sponsoring the "New Year's Eve celebration lunch."
It was obvious that so much thought and dedication went into arranging this. From the hats and party blowers to the coffee and generous amounts of food, it was all so very much appreciated by all those who attended.
As you know, a child's stay in the hospital can be a very stressful time, especially having to spend the days around an exciting holiday, in the hospital, receiving treatment. Your giving spirit has made that day that much brighter.
Once again, thank you for thinking of us, and thank you for caring.
With warm wishes, Faye Brick, CCLS Certified Child Life Specialist Hematology/Oncology Unit |
