Mineola, NY – Pediatric patients at Winthrop-University Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center have more new toys to play with thanks to a generous donation by the Smiles for Scott Foundation, Inc., a charitable organization established to honor the life and memory of Scott Ryan Loeb. The Foundation recently donated four new play cubes, each equipped with vibrant designs and colorful mazes, and one play cube table to bring cheer to young patients being treated at the Hospital.

“We are so appreciative of the Smiles for Scott Foundation’s generosity and know that these gifts will have tremendous impact on patients receiving treatment at Winthrop,” said AnnMarie DiFrancesca, Director of Winthrop’s Child Life Program. “The play cubes have been distributed throughout in the Child Life Activity Center in the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center and at the Cancer Center for Kids, our speciality outpatient office, as well as in the waiting room of the pediatric specialty center. They are already providing an abundance of smiles for the children,” she added.

The mission of the Smiles for Scott Foundation is to enhance the care and lives of children and families afflicted by cancer. “No one, let alone a child, deserves to be beset by such circumstances,” said Plainview resident Laurence Loeb, President of the Smiles for Scott Foundation. “Anything that we can do to make a sick child smile and make their life just a little better is what this Foundation is all about.”

Mr. Loeb and his wife, Debra, were joined by Foundation board members Robert and Phyllis Tunick of Woodbury, Scott’s maternal grandparents, when they delivered the play cubes to the Child Life Activity Center at Winthrop.

Established in December 2005, the Smiles for Scott Foundation endeavours to support various efforts to fight pediatric cancer. For more information about the Smiles for Scott Foundation, visit www.smilesforscott.org.
